Hi everyone, The next EBL meeting has been set for May 17th, 8:00pm at Accent Lounge! We have signed up two really good speakers for this meeting! The speakers will be John Carvalho, Managing Director of DAI Capital Advisors and Bruce Acton, President of Acton Consulting. (Full bios will be posted below). It would be great to pack Accent Lounge (8223 104 street) again with the top young business people in Edmonton. Also, feel free to invite anyone else who you think would be interested in coming out. John is a Managing Director at DAI Capital Advisors Inc., a boutique investment bank providing full range of acquisition, divestiture, corporate finance and advisory services to mid-market companies. John has seven years of experience providing corporate finance solutions to businesses with a focus on companies in the oil and gas services, construction and manufacturing industries. In June 2008, John obtained the Corporate Finance Designation; an internationally recognized designation offered by the Canadian and UK Institute of Chartered Accountants. In December 2005, John successfully obtained his Chartered Business Valuation designation. In addition to his M&A expertise, John is a Chartered Accountant with five years of experience in auditing public and private businesses. In search of a more entrepreneurial venture, John recently left a “Big Four” accounting firm to pursue the opportunity of growing a mid-market investment bank in Northern Alberta. He is driven by the fact that success (or failure) rests squarely on his shoulders. The flexibility offered by entrepreneurship also allows him to spend more quality time with his wife and two young daughters. Bruce Acton was educated at the University of British Columbia where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He then completed a Masters Business Administration degree at the University of Alberta. He is the Past President of the Institute Certified Management Consultants of Alberta. He teaches ABC/M for a number of professional organizations across Canada and has taught at the University of Alberta and Calgary. He has worked with a number of organizations in both the private and public sector from small manufacturers to large service firms. His consulting work has been recognised with two Alberta Premiers Awards for Excellence and nationally with an award from the Institute of Public Administration of Canada. Bruce is currently the president of Acton Consulting and a fellow of the Certified Management Consultants of Alberta. Bruce is passionate about work but is also actively involved in the community. He serves on several boards, is an active member of his local community league, and is involved with Friends of the Provincial Museum. When he is not training and competing in triathlons, he enjoys reading and glass blowing. See you all there!
